OIV recommends the use of cork

The OIV – Office Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin recommends the use of cork stoppers in its environmental standards aimed at the wine industry. The standards consist of a universal protocol – General Principles of the OIV Greenhouse Gas Accounting Protocol for the Vine and Wine Sector – which recommends the use of the cork stopper as a sustainable product. This protocol allows companies to assess their carbon emissions through a system of calculation and provide an analysis guide to the life cycle of the product, in which the cork stopper holds a preeminent role. OIV states that “cork stoppers represent a specificity of the wine sector and their use has a major impact on the sustainable conservation of forests.”
