The CORK&SHOCK is a domestic vacuum cleaner, which has been developed under the Master´s Thesis of the Designer Damien Gaspar. This project is about a vacuum cleaner made of cork-manufactured coverings. Through this project several day-by-day problems were solved, such as decay of the product´s outside, noise absorption among others.
The research was carried out under the Master Product Design at the Architecture Faculty of the University of Lisbon “Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa”. In order to test and validate this concept was built a functional prototype sponsored by Amorim Cork Composites, S.A., Centimfe, Fablab EDP and Iberomoldes – SGPS. S.A.
This concept and prototype was tested by 46 people and has been validated with its good results.
The IAPMEI – Agência para a Competitividade e Inovação, I.P. has provided financial support of this project through a research scholarship “Bolsa do Passaporte para o Empreendedorismo”, which allowed the Designer to prepare a business plan and to encounter possible partners.
Currently this project has a Registry of Industrial Design and a Patent pending.
